27 September 1996 Size distribution files were updated to reduce the data file to only report the surface area and volume calculated from integrating the size distributions, along with the 3 - 6 parameters of the size distributions fit to the aerosol concentration measurements. 13 November 1995 The data in this directory are from balloonborne aerosol measurements collected using University of Wyoming particle counters, five flights, and one flight using Sam Oltman's water vapor hygrometer. The aerosol flights were on 950121 at 20:38 UT 950128 at 10:37 UT 950203 at 17:33 UT 950302 at 12:10 UT 950320 at 15:52 UT For each flight there are three files, e.g. KI920118.uwy, KI920118.5km, and KI920118.asd. The file with extension, .uwy, contains the ascent profile with full vertical resolution. The file with extension, .5km, contains one kilometer averages of the aerosol data. The file with extension, .asd, contains the fit parameters for the best monomodal or bimodal log normal fits to the 0.5 km averaged data, including calculations of the surface area and volume density from integration of the size distribution. In general the log normal fits to the data resulted in root mean square errors < 1.0 for most altitudes, which is quite good. There are exceptions. These last two data files do not follow the NASA Ames format strictly, but I think the headers to the files make the contents clear. The water vapor flight was on 950209 at 12:10. For that flight two files are included: KI950209.uwy and KI950209.5km. The first is the full vertical resolution and the second 0.5 km averages of the data. Both are from the measurements on descent.
